Each One Teach One
Saraya Gomis (EOTO) is the Chairwoman of Each One Teach One (EOTO) e.V. and a teacher in the subjects French, History and Performing Play as well as a lecturer on colonialism and human rights. She is a certified parent instructor and in 2016 became Anti-Discrimination Commissioner for schools of the Berlin Senate for Education, Youth and Science, a post she is now in the process of leaving. Her work focuses on the conception, implementation and evaluation of school and non-school education projects, as well as on the critical reform of the school system. From 2014 to 2016, Saraya Gomis was appointed civil society expert for the implementation of the regional action plan against racism in the field of education by the Berlin Advisory Council. Being a trained educator for the critical and inclusive education it is Ms. Gomis’ goal to decolonize the German school system. Driven by the belief that Anti-Black-Racism can only be tackled by empowering and teaching Black students about the history and achievements of Black people in Germany, Ms. Gomis co-founded the Black Diaspora School at Each One Teach One (EOTO) e.V. In collaboration with her students she developed award-winning theatre plays and film documentaries: one of them being the project “Auf Spurensuche Dr. M.L. Kings: The King Code.” Ms. Gomis’ publications are among the standard texts in the field of racism-critical Each One Teach One (EOTO) is a Black-led community-based education and empowerment project in Berlin. Founded in 2012, the association opened its doors as a community library in March 2014 and has been a place of learning and encounter ever since. EOTO’s reference library, with more than 8000 books, comprises works by authors from the African continent and its diasporas. Since 2017, support from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs enabled EOTO to expand and be active in mainly three areas: as a library and archive, producer of cultural events, provider of youth work and anti-discrimination agency, EOTO is lobbying for Black people.didactics in Germany.
